Our History
Seeing a need for a Fire Department, community leaders formed the Boonsville / Balsora Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1968 to provide more prompt fire protection. The greater community area has consistently grown since then, and the services and level needed has evolved. The county stipend was no longer enough to support all the needs for service, so the community rallied behind the VFD and created Wise County ESD No. 2 in election year 2018. Now, we have acquired a second, Type I structural engine (that has CAFS) and are working to lower the ISO ratings, which will save homeowners on insurance premiums, and are actively working to secure a Wise Co EMS ambulance in our area in the coming years... all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!
